I used to work at an airfield when I was in college. At one of the other hangers there used to be a guy with a VW dune buggy, tube chassis and all, really nice! However it was driven by a large vertical fan, swamp runner style. It was all street legal, inspection and all, I just wouldn't want to be driving behind it in a convertible *L*.
Well anyways, every once in a while he'd take out to the runway. He would then proceed to unload and attach this rather large paraglider type parachute rig to all four corners of the car. Once he had it set up and laid out he'd hop in, fire it up and run down the runway and up into the air. He'd just cruise around for a bit, land, pack up the 'chute and go home. One of the coolest things I ever saw!
